29 November 2011
With the first “big” snowfall arriving today, it’s beginning to look and feel like winter. The temperature has dropped to below freezing, the snow is falling in large, wet lumps from the sky and piling up, layer upon layer, on the chilly ground.
Snow sprinkles.
Boots to keep feet warm in the winter months.
Perhaps before long, our home will be tucked in for winter, just like this:
“Joy to the World” Embroidery Pattern by our Clementine Pattern Co.
.
“God thunders wondrously with His voice;
He does great things that we cannot comprehend.
For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’
likewise to the downpour, His mighty downpour.”
—Job 37:5-6

The snow looks so pretty! We just had our first snow fall this morning, but not enough to stick like yours:)
Also, I LOVE the embroidery!
I just thought I leave you a note and let you know that I really enjoy your blog. It is a touch of beauty in a crazy world. The snow looks lovely. I am imaging how delicious the air smells too. God’s blessings to you.
These photos are lovely as always, Emily Rose! I am excited for our first snowfall, but it doesn’t seem in any hurry to arrive.
Also, would you mind telling me which lens you used to shoot these? I just ordered a 50mm for my Canon XS and am looking forward to receiving it tomorrow in the mail! =)
In Christ’s love,
Annie
Annie, that is exciting – I’m sure you will enjoy your 50mm lens! Is it the f/1.8 or f/1.4? The lens I used for these photographs was my 50mm f/1.4.
i absolutely love the “joy to the world” embroidery, which i have just ordered…could you post the colors that you used??? many thanks! amy
Amy, thank you – we shipped out your order this afternoon and hope you enjoy embroidering it! Yes, we just updated the listing today; you can find the list of colors used in the sample here.
I love the new pattern! It is so cute! Enjoy your beautiful blanket of snow!
I love pictures of snow on branches, it makes me feel so cozy!
I also like how the 3rd picture is more focused in on the snow flakes but that you can still sort of see what is in the background :)
All around beautiful!
Beautiful! I can’t wait until our first snow here! :-) I found your blog through “money saving mom’s” blog, and I’ve been enjoying looking through your posts. :-)
Wow.. living here in upstate NY we usually out-snow everyone! But not this year, I guess;-)
Lovely pictures and lovely embroidery too!
Hello, Emily Rose! You don’t know me, but we have mutual friends through the Sempsrott family — I just wanted to comment here on your blog to say how much I enjoy looking at all of your (and Breezy’s) pictures and posts! They are always so sweet and peaceful. I love your snow pictures here — we people out in Central PA had an amazing snow fall on October 29, but now it’s gone back to being as warm as could be. I hope the weather hurries up and gets cold enough to snow soon!!!!
Blessings, Hannah Lashbrook
Oh so pretty! I was wondering where you got those boots? They are super cute! (I need new boots this year).
Julie, the boots are “Elodie” by Born, which I was able to purchase at a local department store when they had a really good sale. They are very comfortable!
How pretty! We just had our first snowfall here in GA yesterday. Not enough to stick on the ground, but enough to remind us that more snow is coming!
Thanks for sharing the pictures. The embroidery looks adorable!
Rachel Noel
Haha, Emily Rose, you used ‘my’ Job Scripture ;) !!! LOL Isn’t it wonderful that the Word of God is so rich and applicable to life since I actually heard thunder outside yesterday *amazed*
I hope you will come and visit soon…I am missing you girls (MUM included).I am so excited for your Clementine Pattern Co.I have told several about it recently.
Sending warm and cozy thoughts your way!
Love in Jesus,

Wow, so pretty! I am looking forward to our first snow (not counting the one we got in October:) this year. I love to watch it fall and then take a walk in it. The embroidery piece is lovely, maybe something to work on after Christmas:)
Beautiful pictures!!!
Those are gorgeous photos! I love snow. :)
Miss Emily these photos are amazing as always, do you use a tripod for your photos, and I would love if you shared your secret for focusing on the falling snowflakes ?

Rachel Hope.
Rachel Hope, thank you! I shoot my camera in hand, as it tends to be more versatile for me when wanting particular angles and compositions. For the shot with the snowflakes in focus, I had my aperture set at f/2.0 (which created a shallow depth of field), the shutter-speed set at 1/640 (to capture the falling snow mid-air), and manually focused it on the area of falling snow that I wanted to capture. I hope that is helpful!
Although I’m sure we would be ill-prepared for it, I have always dreamed of seeing snow like that in Texas. When we do get snow, it just turns to wet mushy slush, which is no fun at all, and not appealing to the eye.
I miss the winter wonderland of snow. In Northern California, we receive rain and fog – which still make for a cozy afternoon inside, snuggled under blankets, drinking hot cocoa. .. . . . but still there is nothing like snow falling – so beautiful.
Blessings,
Michelle
Emily, my new lens is the 50mm f/1.8. It was a little late in arriving (just yesterday evening), but I have really been enjoying it so far. We set up our Christmas tree last night, so I’ve been having fun experimenting with my new lens. =) Perhaps I’ll post photos on my blog soon.
And thank you for the tips on capturing a photo with the snowflakes in focus (that you left in a comment). As soon as we have some snow I will have to try it out. =)
Have a blessed day!
I love the snow pictures. It makes me want it to snow here, but it rarely ever does. Oh well, you can still wish for it!
Blessings,
Tulip
That falling snow picture is indeed BREATH TAKING. :O So beautiful! :]
