. . . to be surrounded by fields of corn.
It can be easy to get caught up in our day-to-day lives and forget to take the time to thank the One who has given us stewardship over all that we have. It is our Creator who gives us . . .
the breath of life and every heart beat
love for others that goes beyond first impressions
water to quench our thirst (both the spiritual and physical)
joy in the life that He gives
family who stands by our side and encourages us
contentment in where He places us
bread to satisfy our hunger (both the spiritual and physical)
eyes that can see the beauty of His creation that surrounds us
salvation from an eternity of torment
commands to obey and live by
hope in Him and a hope for the future . . .
The list does not end there — it goes on and on. It is a list that does not end. It is all by God’s sovereign grace that we have what we have — and all the praise goes to Almighty God!
“I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart;
I will tell of all Your wonders.
I will be glad and exult in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”
Psalm 9:1-2
Let us look for things to be thankful for so that we may never take for granted what He has bestowed us with (be assured that you do not have to look far to see the love our Lord has for His people). Let us forever thank and praise the One who deserves all the glory!
What comes to mind when you think of things you are thankful for?

This might sound kind of funny, but I’m thankful for sweaters! I love putting them on in the fall, and having a lot to choose from! I know that something like that probably doesn’t have much eternal value, but I like it all the same. I’m also thankful for the changing colors of fall. I don’t remember living in a place where the trees change color, so this fall has been so much fun so far!
I am so thankful that you mentioned “love for others that goes beyond first impressions”. I really need that today, as we are having a neighborhood party to get to know the neighbors.
Thank you my friend!

It’s the simple things that come to my mind; the laughter of my family, the wind in my hair, a baby sibling’s smile, and, like Miss Eyebright said, a warm sweater to put on in the crisp, cool Fall air. ahhh…
Blessings to you, sweet friend!

Amen! It is rare that people take the time to contemplate on what they are thankful for. I am so thankful for God’s beauty in nature! Also, like G. K. Chesterton once said, “I am thankful for my shoes, but I am more thankful that God gave me feet to put into them.” The Lord Bless you and your family!

Just a little note to tell you that our 7 year~old really enjoyed looking at your photos and ‘reading’ what you read (I read it out to her). :) We recently took a ‘living history’ trip with the Grandparents to Grampy’s hometown(s) in Nebraska and so she could totally ‘relate’.
grateful for HIS grip, HveHope

I wanted to thank you Emily, for this wonderful post. What great reminders of all the blessings we enjoy through Christ!
I am thankful for many things (although I don’t dwell upon the goodness of God in giving me these gifts nearly as often as I should), including:
my blessed salvation in Christ
health and vitality
my dear family
godly, encouraging friends like you and Breezy
the paper dolls I received in the mail yesterday! ;)
books, books, and more books
the shelter of my home
the blessed opportunity to take cultural dominion for Christ
Vision Forum, which the Lord used to completely change my life and family
clothing and food, which I so often take for granted
sunsets
flowers and butterflies
beautiful music
dresses
and much, much more!
I think we too often (I know I do, at least!) buzz around with a million different things on our to-do lists, not bothering to take the time to thank God for His goodness! What a service it would be to us if we simply recorded on paper all the many blessings of God-we should count our blessings and name them one by one! :)
God bless you, Emily!
Rebekah
P.S. I loved the pictures of that corn. How I enjoy harvest time! They also made me think of my dear family in Indiana. :)

I love making lists about what I’m grateful for, it keeps me happy.
At the moment I’m grateful for canned pumpkin, available all year. For my health, my scarf and even for the very cool mornings that allow me to put mitts on, I love mitts. I’m grateful for my earphones that help me concentrate on my work, for my work that keeps me on my toes, for my boss because she makes me challenge myself. I’m really grateful for my boyfriend because he’s incredibly nice, patient and loving. Grateful for my cat because well, he’s my cat. I’m grateful for the salary I get that allows me to pay the bills, pay the gym which makes me healthy and happy. I’m grateful for zumba ! And I’m grateful for your post that made me do another grateful list. :)

I am so thankful for the Creative genius of God, and the fact that he made beautiful green trees, and the trees that change their colors to beautiful hues of red, orange, and yellow. I am thankful that He made such great contrast between them and the vibrant blue sky, after all, He could have made blue trees, and then their wouldn’t be the great contrast! He is so wonderful!
